FAQs about Elderly Client Services

What are elderly client services?

Elderly client services is designed with elderly clients and their relatives in mind. We cater for the requirements of elderly clients by monitoring their well-being. If we see that some kind of additional support is needed we can trigger a power of attorney which will allow someone the client trusts to provide consent for health matters, manage day-to-day care and assist with the maintenance of financial matters.  This is all done through the use of  Power of Attorney which can be drafted at any time.

What is a lasting Power of Attorney?

This is a legal document which when an elderly person is unable to give their consent for certain matters will be activated. This allows a previously appointed person to act on the elderly person’s behalf in relation to important financial and health matters.

Who can be appointed as the representative?

The person appointed could be a trusted friend or close relative. It is possible to appoint more than one representative under the Power of Attorney. This means that where expert knowledge is valued it may be wise to appoint in addition to a trusted person, a professional person such as an accountant or solicitor so that you can be safe in the knowledge that your financial affairs are being managed competently.

How does a lasting power of attorney work?

A Power of Attorney is only valid after the required payment has been made, which is only a small fee of £20 and it has been registered.

Once these have been arranged the Power of Attorney can be activated at any time.

How long does the Power of Attorney last?

The Power of Attorney will be valid until a document revoking the power of attorney has been signed.

What kind of matters does the Power of Attorney manage?

The two branches of a Power of Attorney which you can elect are Property and Affairs and the Welfare branch.

The first branch, known as the Property and Affairs branch will allow your elected representative to manage your finances. This includes any bank accounts and assets you own.

The Personal Welfare branch allow the representative to make decisions relating to giving consent for medical treatments and day-to-day care.
